Miscellaneous Services Recruitment Examination 2018 | Rules & Regulations
Public Service Commission, West Bengal has announced through advertisement no- 29/2017 to conduct the miscellaneous service’s recruitment examination 2018 to select candidates for different posts under West Bengal Government. Based on the examination results, candidates will be selected for the following posts.
- Assistant Child Development Project Officer.
- Disaster Management Officer or Block Disaster Management Officer.
- Block Youth Officer or Municipal Youth Officer or Borough Youth Officer
- Sub-Inspector of Excise.
- Block Welfare Officer or Welfare Officer.
- Inspector, Backward Classes Welfare.
- Assistant Agricultural Marketing Officer.
- Assistant Programme Officer.
- Controller of Correctional Services.
- Inspector of Agricultural Income Tax.
- Consumer Welfare Officer.
- Saving Development Officer.
- Posts in West Bengal Subordinate Labour Service.
- Auditor of Co-operative Societies.
- Assistant Auditor, Board of Revenue.
- Extension Officer, Mass Education Extension.
- Lady Extension Officer, Mass Education Extension.
- Assistant Controller of Correctional Services.
- Investigating Inspector.
- Revenue Inspector.
& certain other posts as may be notified subsequently. Women are unsuitable for the post of Sub-Inspector of Excise & men are unsuitable for the post of Lady Extension Officer, Mass Education Extension.
Category of Posts: These posts are Group C Posts and carry pay scale of (PB–3) Rs.7100-37600/- with Grade Pay Rs.3900/- and (PB–3) Rs.7100-37600/- with Grade Pay Rs.3600/. Besides pay, the posts carry allowances as admissible.
Eligibility for Miscellaneous Services Recruitment Examination 2018 | West Bengal
Aspiring to appear for the exams, Candidate should satisfy the following eligibility conditions as per notifications.
Education: Only graduate candidates can apply for this examination, it means candidates who have appeared can apply provided he/she should have the result before the closing date. Candidates should have passed at least graduation in any discipline from any recognized university.
Age Details: Candidates who want to appear should be on the age cap of between 20 years to 39 years as on 1st January 2018. Age is relaxed by
- For SC & ST Candidates by 5 years.
- For BC Candidates by 3 years.
- For Persons with Disabilities (PWD) by 6 years.
In addition to this, Candidates should also have the ability to read, write and speak in Bengali.
Physical Standard: For the post of Sub-Inspector of Excise, minimum height required is 160 cm. Chest girth required is 76 cm and a minimum of 81 cm on expiration.

Examination Pattern of Miscellaneous Services Examination 2018 of West Bengal
The selection of the Miscellaneous Services Examination 2018 shall consist of three successive stages. They are:
- Preliminary Examination
- Final Examination &
- Personality Test.
Preliminary Examination: The preliminary examination is a one paper examination in 1½ hours containing 100 Multiple choice objective type questions carrying 2 marks each on
- General Studies: (150 marks) and
- Arithmetic:- (50 marks)
This examination will be a screening test for selection of candidates for admission to the Final Examination. The marks obtained will not be counted for the purpose of determining the final merit list.
Final Examination:
The final examination will be a exam of three papers of Conventional type questions. The papers are:
- Paper-I: English
- Paper-II : Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali and
- Paper-III: General Studies and Arithmetic.
The full marks for each of the three papers are 150 while time for each of Papers – I & II will be 1½ hours respectively and time of paper III will be 2½ hours. The Paper-I, II & III examination will be held on the same day.
Personality Test: The maximum marks allotted for personality test is 100. Only a few candidates who are selected merit-wise based on the results of the Final Examination (Written) will be called to appear for the Personality Test.
Final Merit List will be prepared taking together the total marks in Final Examination and the marks obtained in the Personality Test.

Application Fee: to apply for this examination, UR and BC candidates need to pay Rs. 160 plus additional service charges.
